  • New Year Home Resolutions

Large Projects: It is no surprise that most people have home improvement on their list of resolutions. Home repair and improvements not only benefit you while you’re living in the home, but they also help to preserve and/or add value. They can even help make the home more marketable when it comes time to sell. While this answer can vary depending on the location and condition of your home, kitchens and bathrooms are typically the best places to spend your money. Some other smart remodel ideas may include adding a deck, finishing a basement, or even adding some extra curb appeal to your home through landscaping.

Small Projects: Depending on your budget, small projects are a good start. Plan on one home improvement project per month. DIY projects can be a good start make those maintenance or repairs that need to be made. And at the end of the year you will have 12 small projects that equal one large accomplishment.

Annual Projects: The Allstate Insurance Company suggests that you compile a home inventory to compose a list of your belongings to ensure the proper coverage in your home owners, condo or renter’s policy. If your home, condo or apartment is damaged or destroyed in a storm, an accurate and up-to-date home inventory can help make the possible recovery process easier on you and your family. Don’t forget to include your new gifts and purchases on the home inventory list that you may already have. Make it your New Year’s Resolution to complete a home inventory soon!
